Deborah Manning founded Manning Literary Agency in 2004 after more than fifteen years working in publishing. She began her career in editorial before moving into agenting, where she developed a reputation for championing distinctive literary voices and thoughtful narrative non-fiction.
Deborah represents a select list of authors writing literary fiction, upmarket commercial fiction, and narrative non-fiction. Her authors have been shortlisted for major prizes and translated into numerous languages.
Known for her editorial approach and long-term commitment to her clients, Deborah works closely with writers to develop manuscripts before submission and to build sustainable careers in publishing.
She takes a particular interest in how a voice develops across a manuscript, and how it is received by a reader.
She lives in London and remains actively involved in the agency’s strategy and client list.
